Beauty and the Beast – Swarovski brings enchantment to Disney’s new movie
After unprecedented anticipation (since November, its online trailer has broken all records with 127.6 million views), Disney’s new live-action adaptation has arrived: Beauty and the Beast is the latest classic animation to come to life on-screen. The European launch took place at London’s Spencer House and Odeon Leicester Square on February 23 with a truly glittering cinematic event—the traditional red plush was rolled away in favor of an enchanting snow-carpeted forest. Swarovski has supported both this debut and the World Premiere, due to take place in Los Angeles on March 2, with some serious on-screen sparkle
From the opening scene to the film’s finale, thousands of crystals were deployed to conjure the fairytale world inhabited by Emma Watson’s Belle, Dan Stevens’ Prince, Audra McDonald’s Madame de Garderobe and Stanley Tucci’s Maestro Cadenza. Belle’s iconic yellow dress alone needed 2,160 crystals for Garderobe to perform her final magical flourish. Academy Award-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran also used Swarovski crystal to create the necessary majestic opulence for the Prince’s 18th century coat.
As well as immersing ourselves in the cinematic experience, there’s another way to enter Beauty’s world: Atelier Swarovski has created a very special jewelry collection to celebrate the film’s themes of inner beauty and strength. With the enchanted rose as its centerpiece, each beautifully crafted item uses Swarovski’s glistening crystal Pointiage technique to reflect the flower’s mystical power.
Three high-end pieces from the collection will be available exclusively online: a statement pendant, a bold cuff, and an oversize ring. As part of its ongoing commitment to female empowerment, for every bracelet sold 30% of the recommended retail price will go to the United Nations Women’s Safe Cities campaign.
Furthermore, Swarovski has created a limited edition Enchanted Rose figurine. A stunning 40%-scale replica of the Bell Jar featured in the movie, this hand-engraved jar stands at 65cm and contains an expertly faceted crystal rose. Only 350 have been made, making it one of the most collectible mementos of what promises to be another Disney all-time classic.
